The Marine Corps’ uniform button emblem is one of the oldest still used by any U.S. service branch today. Its origins trace back to the Charlestown Navy Yard in Massachusetts, the birthplace of the U.S. Navy’s first commissioned ship, the USS Independence.
Aaron M. Peasley is credited with producing the earliest confirmed Marine Corps uniform button emblem sometime between 1810 and 1823.
